Crestar Financial Names Executive

Crestar Financial Corp., Richmond, Va., elected Alfred H. Smith Jr., chairman of Citizens Bank, and Jeffrey R. Springer, the Laurel, Md.-based bank's president, to the board of directors.

Crestar completed its acquisition of Citizens and its parent, Citizens Bancorp, on Dec. 31.

Mr. Smith had been chairman of both the bank and holding company since 1987, and had been on the bank's board since 1963.

He is a partner in A.H. Smith Associates, a sand, gravel, and asphalt company, and in Aerospace Building Partnership, and he also is president of Hil Mar Corp., a real estate investment company.

Mr. Springer had been president of both Citizens and its parent since 1987. He had been an independent real estate investor and developer and, before that, a senior executive at Maryland National Bank.
