Capital Briefs: FDIC Retains Aide, Changes Her Duties

Meeting behind closed doors Tuesday, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. board decided to retain Leslie A. Woolley but agreed to restructure her job.

On his first day last week as acting chairman, Andrew C. Hove Jr. had tried to fire Ms. Woolley, the FDIC's top staffer during the last two and half years while Ricki Helfer headed the agency. Ms. Woolley refused to quit.

While Mr. Hove could not convince a majority of the FDIC's four-member board to oust Ms. Woolley, he did win the right to change her responsibilities. The four departments that used to report to Ms. Woolley will now answer directly to Mr. Hove, including the agency's lobbying shop, its policy development office, ombudsman, and communications department.

Ms. Woolley's new duties have not been determined.
