Sterling Bancorp Names Executive

MIDDLE ATLANTIC

Sterling Bancorp, New York, has hired New Jersey banking executives Michael J. Scheller and James T. Melone to develop new business in international trade services for Sterling National Bank.

Mr. Scheller was named vice president and manager of its international banking department. He had been a vice president in trade finance at Midlantic Bank Corp., Edison, which was bought by PNC Bank Corp.

Mr. Melone was named senior development representative for international trade business, with responsibilities for the bank and its affiliates. He was a senior vice president in the international department at Summit Bancorp, Princeton, N.J.

In addition, Mr. Scheller and Mr. Melone will be responsible for Sterling's automated international transaction processing and automated PC- banking for trade services.

Sterling Bancorp has $850 million of assets.
