Card Briefs: Restaurants Prefer Visa, Its Poll Says

A Chain Store Guide Information Services study commissioned by Visa U.S.A. found that Visa is a preferred payment card for 72.9% of restaurateurs.

More than 500 restaurants were polled by telephone in last year's fourth quarter.

Forty-seven percent chose MasterCard as a preferred payment card, while American Express, Discover, and Diners Club were each chosen by fewer than 10% of the restaurateurs.

Some respondents selected more than one card as their preferred method of payment.

Restaurateurs cited low transaction costs as the primary reason for preferring Visa. Speed of payment and customer preference were also named as reasons for choosing Visa cards.

Among restaurants that accept credit cards, 98.5% took Visa and MasterCard and 82.1% American Express.
