Tech Bytes: KeyCorp in Processing Deal with Checkfree

Checkfree Corp. has agreed to supply KeyCorp transaction processing for home banking and bill payment services.

Cleveland-based KeyCorp is the 11th of 16 banks in the Integrion Financial Network consortium to sign with Checkfree.

Its service will let KeyCorp give customers electronic access to their accounts through personal financial management software like Intuit Inc.'s Quicken and Microsoft Corp.'s Money.

The contract is KeyCorp's second recent move outside IBM-led Integrion. The banking company has also joined the steering committee for Open Financial Exchange, a home banking standards effort spearheaded by Checkfree, Intuit, and Microsoft.

Patrick J. Swanick, executive vice president at KeyCorp, stressed that the company is committed to Integrion. "But we want to advance the discussions toward convergence" between OFX and Gold, the Integrion- developed home banking standard.
