Capital Briefs: OTS Creates Thrift Regulation Fellowship

The Office of Thrift Supervision is looking for 10 people to help the agency modernize the way it regulates thrifts.

The agency on Friday announced a fellowship program that will temporarily place university professors, recent graduates, and business people in the OTS's Washington headquarters and five regional offices.

"We are not doing any hiring, but there is a lot of change going on in the financial system," said Cora P. Beebe, the agency's executive director of administration. "Bringing in fresh ideas, especially to a small agency, is very important right now."

Fellows will work on risk management issues, the application of new technology to thrift supervision, community outreach, and accounting policy, among other areas. The fellowships will last from 13 to 15 months.

The OTS will accept applications for the fellowships, which begin in July, through March 3. The fellows will receive salary commensurate with their experience and the position they are assigned.
