Tech Bytes: Bank of Hawaii Launches Demo Site

Bank of Ha-waii has launched a demonstration site on the World Wide Web in preparation for a full-scale Internet banking program scheduled for the fall.

The service at www.boh.com, dubbed e-bankoh, will include bill paying, funds transfers between accounts, check reconcilement, income and expense analysis, and investment tracking.

The subsidiary of Pacific Century Financial Corp. said it will license the Virtual Financial Manager technology from Security First Network Bank, the Atlanta-based Internet enterprise. Bank of Hawaii, the 24th S1 licensee, also will rely on the Security First Technologies operations center to assure 24-hour customer service.

The S1 technology will also be instrumental in Bank of Hawaii's role in Marketplace Hawaii, a virtual shopping mall which it partly owns, and Time Warner's Road Runner on-line service. "We expect customers will embrace this new technology," said bank vice chairman Thomas C. Leppert.
