Tech Bytes: Smart Phone Has E-Mail Capability

Intelidata Technologies Corp. said its smart telephone, priced at less than $250, now can receive and send electronic mail.

The screen-based, keyboard-equipped Intelifone provides access to weather forecasts, sports scores, and stock quotes over the Internet. Known as SmartTime, the $6.95 monthly service is one of the few allowing smart phones to both send and receive E-mail.

"The Intelifone is E-mail so easy Grandma can use it," said Joe Payne, vice president of marketing for Intelidata.

As financial institutions increasingly offer remote banking through personal computers, Intelidata is making consumer services the centerpiece of its phone offering, said Robert J. Borella, director of corporate communications. The company also provides electronic bill payment services to banks.
