BB&T Spruces Up Checking Account

BB&T Corp. is trying to attract small-business customers with a revamped checking account.

The bank is offering overdraft protection and credit lines linked to small-business checking accounts. BB&T, a $22.7 billion-asset bank, offers credit lines of up to $100,000 for small businesses.

"All small businesses need a convenient source of short-term funds from time to time," said Lynn Harton, BB&T's small-business banking manager.

Mr. Harton said BB&T would aggressively market the new product to current and potential customers. The bank is the 26th-largest bank lender to small businesses nationwide.
