Tech Bytes: Consortium Completes Report on Data Access

The Cross-Industry Working Team, a business consortium that hopes to contribute to the design of the National Information Infrastructure, has completed a white paper on data access.

"This is a major contribution to electronic commerce," said Dan Schutzer, vice president of Citicorp and chairman of the working group that produced the report. "It provides a business framework in which multiple industry groups can participate on their own terms in an open architecture based on digital objects."

The paper, "Managing Access to Digital Information: An Approach Based on Digital Objects and Stated Operations," covers such issues as infrastructure components, intellectual property rights, and digital certification.

In addition to Citicorp-it and Mr. Schutzer are also leaders of the Financial Services Technology Consortium-Cross-Industry Working Team members include AT&T Corp., BBN Corp., Cisco Systems, Cybercash Inc., Hewlett-Packard Co., IBM, MCI Communications Corp., Science Applications International Corp., and Sun Microsystems Inc.
