Card Briefs: Wider Singapore Use For Visa Debit Card

Visa International announced an agreement to extend acceptance of the Interlink on-line debit card in Singapore.

By the fourth quarter, the card association said, overseas visitors will be able to use Visa Interlink at 4,000 merchant outlets in the Network for Electronic Transfers, a system known as Nets that reaches most significant Singaporean retailers.

Interlink was launched in California in the 1980s and is beginning to make inroads overseas. Seven million of the 40 million global Interlink cards have been issued in eight Asia-Pacific countries. Visa's Asia-Pacific region projects 14 million Interlink cards and 100,000 merchant locations accepting them by yearend.
