Capital Briefs: OTS Offers Rule on Thrift Trust Activities

The government Tuesday proposed updating the rules governing federal thrift trust activities.

The proposal details which activities are covered by Office of Thrift Supervision fiduciary regulations, closely tracking a Dec. 30 rule by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

The proposal also codifies a prior OTS interpretation that federal thrifts may offer any fiduciary service that is authorized for other providers in the same state. About 75 thrifts administer more than $60 billion in trust assets, according to the OTS. Comments on the plan are due Sept. 22.
