In Brief: Chase Taps Texas CEO For Vice Chairmanship

Chase Manhattan Corp. on Tuesday named Marc J. Shapiro as vice chairman for finance and risk management.

Mr. Shapiro, 50, had been chairman and chief executive officer of Chase's Texas Commerce Bank subsidiary.

A 25-year veteran of Texas Commerce, Mr. Shapiro is taking on his new duties immediately and will relocate to New York in September. He will report to Chase chairman and CEO Walter V. Shipley.

Succeeding Mr. Shapiro as chairman and CEO of Texas Commerce is John L. Adams, 52, chairman and CEO of Texas Commerce Bank's Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex region.

In addition, Chase said chief financial officer Peter J. Tobin, 53, has advised Mr. Shipley of his plans to retire during the first quarter of 1998.
