PSI, Seeking to Expand,Fills Its First Global Post

Payment Systems Inc. has hired a former MasterCard executive as general manager for global marketing and member services.

Dan Murray, who will be based in New York, will oversee marketing, sales, public relations, business development, and account management for the Tampa-based research company.

"PSI is the leader in the information business, and this is just a natural extension of the consulting work I did at MasterCard for member banks," said Mr. Murray, 49.

This is the first global position created by PSI, which is seeking to expand its information services.

"Providing global information will become very critical for the next generation of financial services," Mr. Murray said.

At MasterCard International from 1993 to 1995, Mr. Murray was general manager, credit products, covering consumer and corporate cards.

After leaving MasterCard, he ran his own consulting company for a year. PSI was a client.

With 26 years of industry experience, Mr. Murray spent 10 years at Chemical Bank as a general manager. He also held marketing positions at Citicorp and American Express.

"We have known Dan for many years and he helped develop relationship strategies for our clients when he left MasterCard," said Martha Rea, executive vice president at PSI.

As consolidation takes place within the financial services industry, companies are trying to strengthen the relationship they have with customers, she said.

"It's better to have fewer clients with whom we can develop relationships with," she said. "Dan is here to implement that strategy, which will be a big part of PSI's future business."
