In Brief: Alex. Brown Duo Join Crestar in Baltimore

Crestar Investment Group, a unit of Crestar Bank, established a Baltimore institutional sales office headed by two former Alex. Brown & Sons Inc. employees.

Sarah S. Pelletier and William G. Kadel Jr. will each vice presidents of institutional sales. They will report to Ronald Thomas, vice president and managing director of institutional sales.

Crestar opened the Baltimore office because the bank's focus on the area has increased in recent years, according to Mr. Thomas. "Now that we are a Maryland bank and a Baltimore bank," Mr. Thomas said, having a Baltimore sales office "is a natural outgrowth of what Crestar has been doing the past several years."

The office will offer capital markets products to financial institutions such as insurance companies, municipalities, and professional money managers.

Though the bank does not have a specific number of new posts to fill, Mr. Thomas said, it will hire talent as the Baltimore office develops. Ms. Pelletier was vice president of institutional sales at Alex. Brown in Baltimore. Mr. Kadel had been at Alex. Brown for four years.

Crestar Bank is part of Richmond, Va.-based Crestar Financial Corp.
