Short Takes: Boston Private Board Elects Two Outsiders

Boston Private Bancorp announced the election of two directors-a publisher and an investment marketing executive-to its board of directors.

Axel J. Leblois, chairman of World Times, which publishes WorldPaper, and Kathleen M. Graveline, a senior vice president of John Hancock Financial Services, were elected last week to the board of the 10-year-old banking company. Their selection is intended to assist the growth of Boston Private Bank and Trust Co., the company's lead subsidiary.

Mr. Leblois was formerly president of Bull HN Information Systems Inc.; he also is on the boards of International Data Group, Wang Laboratories Inc., Peritus Software Inc., and Executrain.

"He's got fingers in a lot of areas that are helpful to us as we expand," said Timothy L. Vaill, president of Boston Private.

Ms. Graveline is in charge of direct marketing for John Hancock and had previously held senior posts at Fidelity Investments Inc. and the Boston Co. She is the third woman named to the Boston Private board.

"She is a classic high-net-worth marketing professional," Mr. Vaill said.
