Shareholders Back BT, Alex. Brown Deal

Shareholders of Bankers Trust New York Corp. and Alex. Brown Inc. approved the two companies' $1.7 billion acquisition plan Wednesday.

The deal is scheduled to close Sept. 1, Bankers Trust said.

Upon completion of the deal, Bankers Trust's broker-dealer, BT Securities Corp., will be replaced by BT Alex. Brown.

Bankers Trust will conduct all of its U.S. investment banking activities, including underwriting initial public offerings, through the new unit.

The acquisition of Alex. Brown puts the final touches on Bankers Trust's plan to become a one-stop-shop for its corporate customers, the bank said. Bankers Trust agreed to purchase Baltimore-based Alex. Brown in April.
