Dental Service Tests POS Terminal System

Washington Dental Service, the largest provider of dental benefits in the state, has completed testing of a receivables processing system based on Hypercom Corp.'s T7GQ point of sale terminal.

The system, Receivables Payment Manager, automates verification of insurance availability and integrates that function with payment card authorization. A patient's co-payment can thus be processed concurrently with the insurance inquiry.

Washington Dental Service, working with Imperial Bank of Los Angeles, Telemoney for credit card processing, and National Data Corp. for claims processing, officially started selling the program in July to its more than 2,700 members at a regional dental conference in Seattle.

"The RPM system enhances cash flow and reduces billing expenses and incidences of slow-pay or uncollectable accounts," said Debra Hubers, senior vice president of Imperial Bank.

"Health care applications require a higher level of sophistication than ever before," said Hypercom president Albert Irato. Hypercom has the capability to meet the complex demands not just with the T7GQ terminal but at every level from the terminal to the host computer."
