Tech Bytes: Block Selling Tax Software Over the Internet

Block Financial Corp. announced plans to sell tax preparation software directly through its Web site, known as Conductor.

Block is offering users the ability to download Kiplinger TaxCut for $19.95, a $5 savings from its direct mail price.

When downloaded, the software resides on a user's computer hard drive in a "digital container."

A customer wanting to use the program must first provide credit card and registration information, which is routed to Block through a toll free, direct dial-up connection.

"By allowing consumers to download (these programs), we continue to enhance the array of financial services we can deliver directly to the home," said William P. Anderson, president of Block Financial.
