In Brief: Bank of Hudson New Name for N.Y. Thrift

After 166 years, Poughkeepsie Savings Bank is shaking up the status quo. The New York State thrift was officially renamed Bank of the Hudson Tuesday. It had been named for its hometown since it was chartered in 1831.

But Joseph B. Tockarshewsky, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of the $850 million-asset thrift, said the new name will better reflect the Hudson Valley market the thrift now serves. Bank of the Hudson has 15 branches and seven loan offices in New York and New Jersey.

"This institution has grown," Mr. Tockarshewsky said in a written statement, "and we are confident that our new name honors our past while serving the future."

It has already been a busy year for the thrift. In May, Poughkeepsie Financial Corp., a parent holding company, was formed.
