Cards Briefs: Indiana Said to Pick Transactive for EBT

Transactive Corp. said Indiana has chosen it to administer an electronic welfare benefits program.

The company, a subsidiary of lottery processing giant G-Tech, will now negotiate a contract with the state to provide electronic benefits delivery.

Along with First of America Bank Corp. and other partners, Transactive will develop a system for the state's electronic delivery of food stamps and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

The five-year agreement is to include the possibility of two additional years, at the option of Indiana's Family and Social Services Administration.

Transactive recently announced an agreement to provide electronic benefits transfer in Mississippi. It has been in a legal battle with the U.S. Treasury over the latter's decision to permit only banks to be prime contractors for federal EBT programs.
