Briefs: BT Financial of Penn. Goes to Single Charter

A Pennsylvania bank holding company has consolidated its three banks to reduce confusion and marketing costs.

BT Financial Corp., Johnstown, said it has merged the charters of Johnstown Bank and Trust Co., Fayette Bank, and Laurel Bank. The 72 branches will now operate under the Laurel Bank name throughout southwest Pennsylvania.

John H. Anderson, chairman and chief executive officer of $1.57 billion- asset BT Financial, said the consolidation will save money by allowing it to market one bank instead of three. He said he also hopes the move will help acquisition targets get a clearer picture of the company.
