In Brief: CS First Boston Lands Private-Equity Execs

Credit Suisse First Boston hired two executives from Morgan Stanley, Dean Witter, Discover & Co. for its private equity group.

Hartley Rogers and Michael Schmertzler joined the firm as managing directors and co-heads of the firm's private equity group in the United States and Canada.

They will report to David DeNunzio, chief executive officer of the private equity division.

At Morgan Stanley, Mr. Rogers was a managing director in charge of the $1 billion Princes Gate Investors II private equity fund. He also headed the $800 million Morgan Stanley Bridge Fund.

Mr. Schmertzler was president of Morgan Stanley's $550 million leveraged capital fund and the $1.6 billion Morgan Stanley Leveraged Equity Fund II. Before that, he was chief financial officer and head of international investment banking at Lehman Brothers.

Previously, Credit Suisse First Boston, a unit of Credit Suisse Group, managed its U.S. investments through Clipper Capital Partners and Windward Capital Partners.
