First National Bank of Ipswich, Mass. has promoted executive vice president Evelyn M. Murphy to president, succeeding Lin Morison, who retired.

She is the first woman president of the 105-year-old bank.

Ms. Murphy started her career at Arlington Trust Co. as a teller, and in 1977 jumped to Bank of Boston's commercial lending division. After a stint in a loan officer development program she joined the bank's transportation lending division, and ultimately became its senior lender and director.
