Visa to Open Office In Japan for Olympics

Visa International said it would open a customer service center in Nagano, Japan, on Feb. 6 - the day before the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympic Games there.

Visa, a corporate sponsor of the Olympics, said the centrally located facility would offer general assistance and emergency services to Visa card and travelers check customers. It will close Feb. 23, the day after the games end. Round-the-clock telephone service will also be available.

Separately, Visa's Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore announced that Asia Commercial Bank issued the first Visa cards in Vietnam on Oct. 15. The bank expects to issue 2,000 cards by yearend.

"Vietnam is a very new card market, and card payment is not yet well accepted," said Nguyen Thanh Toai, vice president of the 10-branch bank, which became a Visa member in April. "We are confident this will be a growth market in time."
