Card Briefs: Honor to Use Applied's Predictive Risk System

Applied Communications Inc. said it has licensed its Predictive Risk Management system, known as PRM, to Honor Technologies Inc., operator of the largest electronic banking network in number of automated teller machines.

Honor will integrate PRM with the Applied Communications Base24 processing software that it has been using since 1993.

The risk management system will address the debit card fraud problem that has been of increasing concern as ATM and point of sale services grow in popularity.

Institutions in the Florida-based Honor network "require a solution that not only limits their exposure to existing fraud, but also can adapt to new criminal patterns before potential losses multiply," said Honor executive vice president Paul Schmelzer.

Applied Communications, a subsidiary of Transaction Systems Architects, relies on neural network technology from Nestor Inc. to identify potentially fraudulent transaction patterns.
