Smart Bits: Racom Systems Unveils Smart Card Upgrade

Racom Systems Inc., a company known for making contactless smart card systems, has introduced the RX-1500 series, which can operate in both contact and contactless modes.

Contactless cards, which do not require insertion into a terminal device, are suited to high-traffic operations like public transit. Racom said the RX-1500 can thus serve multiple applications, including parking, loyalty, access control, and electronic purse.

In contrast to conventional contact or contactless-only smart cards, the RX-1500 version "offers at an affordable price the same high level of security and file access in both contactless operation and when used with an ISO 7816 standard contact reader," the Denver-based company said.
