Briefs: Citi Gets Go-Ahead for Cameroon Office

Regulators in Cameroon have authorized Citicorp to open a branch, a bank spokesman confirmed.

He added that it would probably not open until next year and would initially be used mainly for corporate banking. Citicorp officials said the decision to open in Cameroon was made after the bank concluded that the market was underserved.

Citicorp has the most extensive network among U.S. banks in sub-Saharan Africa, with branches in Gabon, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Zambia, Congo, Angola, Kenya, and South Africa.
