Tech Bytes: NCR Software Adds RSA Data Encryption

NCR Corp. said it has enhanced the security of its Top End software to meet the anticipated demands of Internet commerce.

NCR said it will incorporate the data encryption features of Bsafe, the core product of RSA Data Security Inc., Redwood City, Calif.

The Top End product is classified as middleware, which allows financial institutions-said to be the biggest beneficiaries of the added transactional security-to link application systems regardless of technical platform or vendor with the new delivery capabilities of the Internet, corporate intranets, and extranets.

Top End is widely deployed in home banking, relationship banking, call centers, and electronic commerce, NCR said.

"Security has become a major issue, especially when you serve the large data bases we do," said NCR computer systems group senior vice president Bill Eisenman. "We can't think of a better way to protect the interests of our customers than to link up with a world leader in security and encryption technology such as RSA."
