Smart Bits: Schlumberger Introduces 2 Remote Terminals

Schlumberger Smart Cards and Systems North America unveiled, at the New York Restaurant and Food Service Show, two terminals for accepting credit, debit, and smart card payments.

The MagIC 9000 terminal, a hand-held remote model, allows restaurant staff to complete credit, debit, or smart card transaction at a customer's table, eliminating the need to take the card to a central location for processing.

The MagIC terminal can perform authorizations on-line through wireless technology. It accepts magnetic stripe and chip cards. It can also be used to accept transactions off-line for home delivery.

The company also introduced the MagIC 3000, designed for high-volume point of sale locations, such as grocery stores and retailers. A combination terminal and personal identification number pad accepts debit, credit, and smart cards.
