Short Takes: Marshall & Ilsley Web Site for Fund Holders

Marshall & Ilsley Corp.'s mutual fund family last week launched an interactive Web site that lets customers trade and gain access to their accounts.

Using a special password, the Marshall Funds' 12,000 shareholders can buy, redeem, and exchange fund shares on-line, said Catherine A. Voss, marketing director for the fund group. Investors can also get pricing, fund performance, and market information, she said. The service, dubbed Marshall Funds Online, is available at www.marshallfunds.com.

Previously, account information was available only by dialing a toll- free number, which connected the investor to a call center.

Before the launching, the banking company had done a pilot test using employees who are shareholders in the Marshall Funds, said Ms. Voss.

The Marshall Funds are managed by M&I Investment Management Corp., a subsidiary of the Milwaukee-based banking company. The 11 funds have $3.5 billion of assets.

Separately, M&I will launch another on-line service for participants in the bank's 401(k) program, said Ms. Voss. That Web site is to be unveiled in 1998, she said.
