Dime's Chief Financial Officer Resigning Next Month

Dime Bancorp has announced that David E. Sparks, its chief financial officer, will resign from the company effective March 1.

The New York-based thrift said Mr. Sparks, 52, is leaving Dime in order to pursue a private business opportunity outside of the thrift industry.

At Dime, Mr. Sparks oversaw such areas as accounting and financial reporting, treasury, external affairs and investor relations, and strategic planning.

Before joining Dime in mid-1996, he was chief financial officer at CoreStates Financial Corp., Philadelphia.

"In the relatively short time that David was with us, he made an important contribution to accelerating Dime's transition from a traditional savings bank to a consumer-oriented financial services company," said Lawrence J. Toal, Dime's chief executive, in a statement.

Dime said that it has begun a search for a new chief financial.
