Bankers Trust New York Corp. has hired Charles Lerner for newly created position in its global corporate compliance group-as managing director of compliance for the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

Mr. Lerner was the director of enforcement with the Department of Labor's pension and benefits administration. He reports to Vince Geraghty, managing director of trust and fiduciary compliance.

Before joining Labor Department in 1984, Mr. Lerner spent 14 years with the Securities and Exchange Commission. He was branch chief and staff attorney in the division of trading and markets from 1970-78, then became senior counsel in the division of enforcement.

In addition, Bankers Trust hired Donna Simon as managing director and head of the bank's global power utility group.

The bank said she will direct a team specialized in the financing, merger and acquisition, restructuring and risk management needs of global power companies.

Ms. Simon was managing director and co-head of the utilities group at Kidder, Peabody & Co. Before that, she had been managing director and senior relationship manager at Merrill Lynch & Co.
