Card Briefs: First Singaporean Joins Visa International Board

Wee Ee Cheong, deputy president of United Overseas Bank, Singapore, has joined the Visa International board of directors.

Mr. Wee, a Visa Asia-Pacific board member since 1992, is the first banker from his country elected to the international board.

He is a director of the four banks in the UOB Group and its major subsidiaries and affiliates. He is a director of several other large Singaporean corporations and is deputy chairman of the country's Housing and Development Board.

Visa Asia-Pacific president Dennis M. Goggin said Mr. Wee's "wealth of experience ... will prove valuable" to Visa's success in the rapidly growing region.

Other Asia-Pacific executives on the Visa International board are Sadao Okino, chairman of Visa Japan and president of Sumitomo Credit Service Co. Ltd., and Jeffrey L.S. Koo, chairman of the National Credit Card Center of the Republic of China.
