Former Visa Exec Joins Internet Marketing Company

Neil E. Waldo, a former senior vice president of Visa International, has joined BFC Inc., operator of the Internet credit card marketing program known as GetSmart.

Mr. Waldo was named BFC's director of industry operations and will help develop "alternative distribution channels of high value to credit card issuers and the consumer," said BFC president Bill Fisher.

BFC, a privately held company in San Mateo, Calif., founded by former Wells Fargo Bank executives, among others, devised a system that allows consumers to scan virtually all credit card offers in search of the best deal. Access is available via a toll-free telephone number as well as the Internet.

Mr. Waldo moved from International Business Machines Corp. to Visa in 1986 as senior vice president, managing the VisaNet operating centers in the United States. He later took on international delivery-system responsibilities and in 1993 moved into consumer financial information services, where he was instrumental in the creation and marketing of the Visa Interactive remote banking services.

BFC also announced two additions to its board of directors: Tom Proulx, president of the California Technology Alliance and co-founder of Intuit Inc.; and J. Markham Green, a Goldman, Sachs & Co. partner.
