Albert Mandia Named Chief Financial Officer At CoreStates

CoreStates Financial Corp., Philadelphia, has named Albert W. Mandia chief financial officer.

The post had been vacant since mid-1996, when David E. Sparks left to become CFO of Dime Bancorp, New York.

Mr. Sparks, who is leaving that job next month, also held the CoreStates post only briefly; he'd been CFO at Meridian Bancorp, which CoreStates acquired in April.

Mr. Mandia had effectively been CoreStates' chief financial officer before Mr. Sparks arrived, but with the title of senior manager of finance and administration. In the interim he has been senior manager of finance and administration for CoreStates' third-party processing unit.

Christopher J. Carey was named to succeed Mr. Sparks as CFO of CoreStates Bank. Mr. Carey was the parent company's controller.
