ABN Amro Chicago Buy Citicorp's Futures Brokers and Clearing Unit

ABN Amro Bank NV said it has agreed to buy Citicorp's futures brokerage and clearing unit, Citicorp Futures Corp. The price was not disclosed.

The big Dutch banking company has been seeking a bigger share of the North American capital markets. The Citicorp business has 150 employees and offices in Chicago, New York, London, and Singapore.

The Citicorp unit would be acquired by ABN Amro Chicago Corp., which was formed after its parent bought the securities firm Chicago Corp. last year. ABN Amro said the acquisition would give it a bigger share of the market for trading futures contracts tied to agricultural and energy commodities, as well as currencies.

Crain's Chicago Business recently reported that the Citicorp unit was expected to fetch about $20 million. - Bloomberg Business News
