Tech Bytes: Electronic CommerceVenture Adds Funding

The EC Co., a joint venture that develops business-to-business electronic commerce systems, said it has obtained $6 million in additional funding.

The initiative was led by Asset Management, a Palo Alto-based venture capital firm, and Thomson Finance Investments Inc., an affiliate of Thomson Financial Publishing, one of the EC Co.'s early strategic partners. (It is part of the same parent organization, Thomson Corp., that owns American Banker.)

The EC Co., also based in Palo Alto, has developed innovative data- mapping software-currently in beta testing-that allows customers to transmit funds and data over a secure network to banks and trading partners.

"We have increased our staff resources and achieved a high degree of fiscal health," said the organization's president, Andrew T. Duncan.
