Capital Briefs: Financial Reform PanelSaid to Enlist Key Players

House Republican leaders are still picking members for the GOP working group on financial modernization, but some key players have already been named, according to several sources.

Said to be joining the panel are Banking Committee Chairman Jim Leach and Commerce Committee Chairman Thomas Bliley. Also said to be in the group are the chairmen of two House Banking subcommittees-Louisiana's Richard Baker (capital markets) and Marge Roukema of New Jersey (financial institutions)-and Ohioan Michael G. Oxley, who heads House Commerce's finance subcommittee.

As expected, the group will be led by Ohioan John Boehner, chairman of the House Republican Conference.

The working group's mission is to overcome industry disputes that have repeatedly derailed financial reform legislation.
