1st Empire State Promotes Pinto To Job of Chief Financial Officer

First Empire State Corp., Buffalo, has promoted Michael P. Pinto to executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Mr. Pinto will remain executive vice president and CFO at M&T Bank, First Empire's principal banking unit.

In addition, four top officers were given the title of executive vice president at the holding company. They are:

John L. Pett, based in Buffalo, who remains chief credit officer for both entities.

Brian E. Hickey, also based in Buffalo and president of M&T Bank's Rochester, N.Y., division. He continues his responsibilities managing the bank's Buffalo corporate banking and commercial real estate business.

Atwood Collins 3d, president of M&T Bank's New York City division.

James L. Hoffman, based in Newburgh, N.Y., president of M&T Bank's Hudson Valley division.

First Empire State Corp. has $12.9 billion of assets.
