Correction: 04/01/97 issue

An article Tuesday, "Taiwanese Banks Step Up the Pace of Capital Infusion in California" (page 1), was mistaken in saying the pending acquisition of Los Angeles-based Far East National Bank by Bank Sinopac would be the first purchase of a U.S. bank by a Taiwanese bank.

In fact, the first such purchase occurred when Taiwan-based International Commercial Bank of China bought New York-based Chinese American Bank in 1984.
