Tech Bytes: Consortium Formed For Data Security

The data encryption community has a new advocacy group: the Cryptography Products Consortium.

Organized under the auspices of the National Computer Security Association, the consortium said it aims to "foster interoperability and transparency of cryptography products" and define and advance the common goals" of vendors and system integrators.

The charter members are many of the companies active in data security as it relates to electronic banking and commerce. They include the smart card manufacturers Gemplus and Schlumberger as well as BBN Corp., Cylink Corp., Pretty Good Privacy Inc., Rainbow Technologies Inc., RSA Data Security Inc., Sterling Commerce, Trust Information Systems Inc., and V-One Corp.
