J.P. Morgan Exec Jumps to Risk Post At Bankers Trust

David C. Shimko has joined Bankers Trust New York Corp. as vice president of its risk-management advisory group, a new post.

Mr. Shimko jumped last week from J.P. Morgan & Co., where he had headed risk-management research since May. Before that he had led commodity derivatives research.

His hiring is the latest step by Bankers Trust to beef up its risk- management department. Last September it recruited Kevin Ferrell, a former BankAmerica Corp. executive, to head the group.

"Bankers Trust is staffing up the function, and I expect them to hire more people over time," said Raphael Soifer, an analyst with Brown Brothers Harriman. "As products are becoming more and more complex, risk management is growing more and more complex."

Mr. Shimko reports to Martin Nance, head of the North American risk management advisory. Before joining Morgan, Mr. Shimko was an assistant professor of finance at the University of Southern California's School of Business Administration.
