In Brief: Resource of Va. Buys A Neighboring Thrift

Resource Bank announced plans last week to merge with Eastern American Bank, a $82 million-asset thrift based in Herndon, Va.

Each outstanding share of Eastern American common stock will be converted into 0.77 shares of Resource Bank common stock.

The $87 million-asset Resource Bank plans to operate Eastern American's two branch offices as a division, using the thrift's name.

The merger, which must be approved by bank regulators and shareholders, is scheduled to close in the fall.
