Tech Bytes: IBM, Oracle Execs On Commerce Net Board

Technology industry leaders Irving Wladawsky- Berger and Gerald Held have become the 11th and 12th board members of the CommerceNet consortium.

Mr. Wladawsky-Berger has spent 26 years with International Business Machines Corp., mostly in research and development positions, and has been general manager of the Internet division since December 1995.

Mr. Held is senior vice president of Oracle Corp.'s server technologies division. He previously spent 18 years and Tandem Computer Inc., rising to chief technology officer.

CommerceNet president Randall C. Whiting said the two directors are typical of the "senior level executives" the consortium is seeking to lead the charge in promoting electronic commerce.

The three-year-old group has more than 500 members worldwide. Jay M. Tenenbaum, its founder and chairman, heads a board that includes George Conrades of BBN Corp., Shikhar Ghosh of Open Market Inc., Dan Lynch of Cybercash Inc., and Dudley Nigg of Wells Fargo Bank.
