In Brief: Calif. Thrift Aims to Sound Less Thriftlike

Bay View Capital Corp. has changed the name of its Bay View Federal Bank to make it sound more like a bank.

The new name, Bay View Bank, "better reflects our ... evolution into a full-service community bank," said president and chief executive officer Edward H. Sondker in a statement.

Bay View Bank operates under a federal thrift charter. It has 27 branches in eight counties in the San Francisco Bay area.

The Nasdaq symbol of the $3 billion-asset holding company is also changing. On Thursday it will go to BVCC, from BVFS.
