In Brief: L.A. Bank to Run Currency Exchange Shops

Founders National Bank of Los Angeles, the only black- owned bank in California, is working with a British currency exchange company to offer one-stop business shopping to travelers at Los Angeles International Airport.

Under a five-year agreement approved by the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners, Founders will operate two of the 16 business-center locations at LAX awarded to Lenlyn, a London-based company that operates currency exchange services at airports worldwide.

Lenlyn sought out Founders to comply with federal regulations requiring 10% minority participation in airport contracts.

Travelers will be able to obtain foreign currency exchange, travel insurance, notaries public, travelers' checks, and other business services at the locations.

All 16 locations will be operated under the name ICE Currency Exchange USA, a company associated with Lenlyn. But the Founders locations will also display the bank's name. Lenlyn has operated at LAX since 1984 under the name L.A. Currency Exchange.
