Card Briefs: Visa Picks Executive VP For Asia-Pacific Region

Visa International said it appointed James G. Murray executive vice president and general manager for Southeast Asia.

Based in Singapore, Mr. Murray will oversee programs there and in India, Indochina, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand-parts of the card association's Asia-Pacific region.

Visa claims the leading market share in the fast-growing region, where fourth-quarter payment volume rose 29% to $171.2 billion, including $54.5 billion of commercial funds transfers in China.

Mr. Murray was Chase Manhattan Bank's London-based managing director of corporate banking for the United Kingdom and northern Europe. Visa Asia/Pacific president Dennis M. Goggin was also an international corporate banker at Chase before taking the card assocation post last year.
