Capital Briefs: Bank Groups Fight Miss. Insurance Sales Law

Three trade groups urged a federal judge on Monday to overturn a Mississippi law that regulates bank insurance sales.

The groups said the Mississippi law allows its insurance commissioner to "second-guess" the comptroller of the currency's interpretation of the National Bank Act.

This directly contradicts the intent of the bank act, which was to create a single, national standard for federally chartered banks.

The American Bankers Association, the Association of Banks in Insurance, and the Mississippi Bankers Association all signed the brief.
