Tech Bytes: American Banker Editor Moderating at Seminar

Regulatory officials, marketing experts, and technologists will put their heads together May 19 for "Changing the Face of Money," a day-long symposium preceding the annual Cardtech/Securtech conference in Orlando.

John Carlson of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and Heidi Richards of the Federal Reserve Board, will discuss U.S. and international regulatory approaches to smart cards and other forms of electronic money, with analysis to follow by Washington attorney Thomas Vartanian.

Lynn Upshaw and Elizabeth Chaney, California-based experts in branding and marketing of high-tech innovations, will address "the consumer proposition."

Arthur Coleman of Sun Microsystems' JavaSoft unit; Tom Carty of GTE Cybertrust; and George Wallner, chairman of Hypercom Corp.; will cover technology advances and cost prospects.

"We want to get very specific about market readiness-from the institutional, customer, and technology perspectives," said Jeffrey Kutler, executive editor of American Banker, who will be moderator of the session. It is one of five symposia and workshops preceding Cardtech proper, which expects several thousand visitors to the Orange County Convention Center May 20-22.
